HoYoverse (formerly MiHoYo) has confirmed that Honkai: Star Rail will launch on April 26 for PC, iOS, and Android. Versions for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 are also in development, though no release window has been announced for consoles.

Story and Setting

The game follows the events of Honkai Impact 3rd and takes place aboard a space train called the Astral Express. The protagonist is implanted with a Stellaron, described as a destructive seed that will eventually cause a catastrophe. As players travel through the cosmos, they encounter a variety of civilizations, such as the frozen world of Jarilo-VI and the eastern fantasy-inspired flagship Xianzhou Luofu, each with its own distinct culture and environments.

Gameplay and Combat

Unlike the real-time combat of Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail features turn-based battles. Players assemble a party by unlocking new characters through gacha-style mechanics and microtransactions, similar to the character system in Genshin Impact. The turn-based approach emphasizes tactical positioning and skill timing rather than action-oriented reflexes.

Early Impressions

In IGN’s closed beta preview, the game was described as “a well-made game with an interesting enough universe, story, and characters making me want to come back to it and see it evolve over time.” The preview highlighted the combination of sci-fi themes and character-driven storytelling as key draws for returning players.
